What is sexual abuse?

Sexual abuse is a sexual act forced on an individual without their consent. Sexual touching, forcing the victim to touch the abuser, and showing a non-consenting individual pornography are all examples of abuse. Anyone can be the victim of sexual abuse, regardless of age or gender.

Child sexual abuse is any sexual act done to a child under the age of consent. The age of consent is 17 in the State of Illinois. Child sexual abuse often has a lasting negative impact on the survivor, but counseling and support can help reduce that impact significantly.
